On the 15th of May Neil Barker and Jon Cooper from our Projects Division and Steve Cargill of R&M Fixings took part in the Saints Big Bike Challenge to raise money for the Saints Foundation. The event was an 83 mile bike ride from Selhurst Park to St Mary’s arriving in time to see the Saints take on Crystal Palace for the last Barclays Premier league home fixture of the season.
“The ride started at 5.30am at Selhurst Park, heading out of London going through Epsom and Leatherhead our first stop was 30miles south of Guildford (Chilworth) arriving at about 7.30am, after a quick fuel stop we headed out again. Going through Haslemere, Liphook and Petersfield we headed to our final drinks stop in East Meon arriving just after 10am, again more food and drink. The final stage started with a gruelling hill out of East Meon bound for Bishops Waltham, Botley and then the final stretch home over Northam Bridge then left into St Marys to cheers and claps from fans and fellow riders who had arrived slightly earlier!
Overall it was a good day, well organised and the weather was just right for the ride. We also managed to stay on course with no deviation. Bring on next year! Neil Barker (Projects Manager)
Total raised £2254.21
The Saints Foundation has been set up specifically to raise funds for disadvantaged young people and vulnerable adults. The aim is to reach a £1million fund raising target each year, by harnessing the influence Southampton FC has on people’s lives and making a real difference in the community.
