R&M Electrical Group acquires majority shareholding in Cairn Safety Technology

R&M Electrical Group, a member of the global Niedax Group, has acquired a majority shareholding in Cairn Safety Technology, creating greater opportunities for collaboration and market expansion in the industrial safety and hazardous‑area engineering space.

Cairn Safety Technology, based in Scotland, specialises in pressurised habitat systems and hot‑work safety solutions for offshore and hazardous environments. Its flagship product, the Cairn Cocoon welding habitat, creates a safe, over‑pressurised workspace that isolates hazardous gases from ignition sources, thereby protecting personnel during welding, grinding, cutting, and fabrication activities in explosive or gas‑risk areas. A key component of the system, the Einstein unit, is assembled by our team in Aberdeen, and the complete solution is made available for rental to end users.

William Crook, Managing Director of R&M Electrical Group, commented:

We have worked with the Cairn Safety Technology team for over two years. Our companies share many synergies - common suppliers, similar geographic markets, overlapping product ranges, and some of the same customers. Cairn brings a fantastic team with outstanding technical expertise, while R&M offers access to assembly services and a broader client base. We complement each other exceptionally well and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.

Bruno Reufels, Chairman of Niedax Group, added:

We are very pleased with R&M’s strategic investment in Cairn Safety Technology. Safety is one of our defining principles, and this move aligns closely with that commitment. We see significant opportunity in this sector, and we are delighted to add this capability to our global network.

Cairn’s Directors shared their enthusiasm for the joint venture:

We have always found R&M to be a great company with many similarities and complementary strengths. This partnership will allow us to scale, accelerate our growth, and take the business to the next level. We are very excited to take this next step together.

For clients, this strategic partnership will deliver greater access to an industry-leading solution for pressurised habitats that safeguards their teams and helps avoid expensive and disruptive site shutdowns. It marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the three businesses.
