Full UK Government approval was granted in 1996 for the two sections of the 69-mile (108km) high-speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL). This project means that speeds of up to 186mph can be achieved (300km/hr) making the journey time from London’s Waterloo International station to Paris, Lille and Brussels up to 20 minutes quicker.

R&M’s project division using its supply chain management skills initially supplied over 1 million GBP of various types of cabling to the project. This positive supply resulted in further business being awarded for feeder pillars, marshalling junction boxes and various cable accessories including Hawke glands.

The location of the project meant that R&M could display there flexibility and ability to service large scale supply with the care and attention required. R&M provided full time technical support to this contract as well as a dedicated project leader to source and deliver materials in line with the project schedule.
