R&M CASE STUDIES

LED Lighting for the Tipner Park & Ride, Portsmouth

R&M’s Lighting Engineers were asked, working in conjunction with SSE Contracting, Volker Fitzpatrick, and Portsmouth City Council to produce lighting schematics and designs, specify product and manage the supply chain for the innovatively designed buildings and underpass in the Tipner Park & Ride Project.

Tipner is a large prominent gateway site at the entrance of Portsmouth, straddling the M275 motorway with water frontage onto both Portsmouth Harbour and Tipner Lake. The £28 million project has brought a 650 space park and ride facility to the area with a dedicated bus land into the Portsmouth – with its main aim being to reduce congestion in the city.

After consulting with all parties involved, the Lighting Division team’s recommendations and schematics took account of the modern and edgy design of the buildings by offering an energy efficient LED lighting scheme that was in keeping with the intentions of the original remit to make the buildings a feature of the local area.

To achieve the desired affect a range of energy efficient products were sourced from leading manufacturers – Trilux Lighting, Cooper Lighting and Ansell Lighting, chosen for their product efficiency, low energy consumption, low maintenance requirements, ability to operate in a wide range of external temperatures and pleasing aesthetic design.

R&M’s Lighting Division were also asked to work alongside Architainment Lighting and Philips Lighting to help produce the colour change LED lighting for the facia, signage and underpass leading to the park & ride building. The end design is contemporary and fitting for such an iconic building.

Please feel free to use the park and ride facilities at Tipner and see the design for yourself!
