“IT IS NOW A LEGAL REQUIREMENT TO MAKE PROVISION FOR TOOLS FALLING WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT”

R&M’s Southampton Branch have teamed up with Beta tools to offer the solution to the legal obligation every organisation has to ensure a safe system of work for their employees whilst working with tools at height.
Beta Tools offers two solutions to the problem, incorporating innovative design with the quality they are renowned for:
A Wrist strap and direct swivel fixing that attaches to the tool
And
A Wrist strap and elasticized web lanyard
Both options allow the operator free use of the tools whilst safe guarding against the dangers of dropping them, both to personnel and to machinery.
The wrist straps have the added safety feature of “breaking away” from the operator is the tool is snatched into machinery or trapped in steelwork when climbing – helping prevent the employee from being injured.
Beta Tools can also make up individualised kits incorporating their safety conscious Bags, Belts and Pouches, and any combination of lanyards required – offering the additional service of laser engraving with logo’s, company names and serial numbers if required!
The dropping of tools and equipment from height can result in serious injury or even fatalities – as dropping even the smallest screw driver from a 4th floor building (14 meters) results in speeds of 61kph being reached on impact! Even the wearing of a hard hat will not offer protection – and the likely consequence is a fatality.
Beta tools offer the perfect solution to your tool tethering needs

R&M Electrical have long recognised the obvious benefits of having a fit and heatlhy work force, and this year have taken policy further by installing a well equipped gym at both our Head Office at Sholing and in our Swansea Branch.
R&M’s employees through-out the group are additionally taking advantage of the newly introduced “Cycle to Work” scheme, with take up on the scheme expected to be high.
The BikeScheme is a government backed initiative where employees are able to save up to 50% on the cost of a cycle and safety accessories for the purpose of cycling to work.
R&M’s employees are being encouraged to choose a cycle through our partners in this enterprise – http://www.runabikescheme.co.uk/ which they then hire back off of R&M for a monthly fee.
“R&M takes its employees well being very seriously and believe that a fit work force is an engaged work force! The benefits of introducing such a scheme are two fold - we encourage all of our employees to get fit and healthy and at the same time R&M reduces its carbon footprint, giving us a “Win, Win” situation” William Crook – Finance Director

Key Features of this bolt are:

- Can be used in extremely thin concrete panels, starting at 8cm thickness
- Smalles edge distances and axial spacings for more application options
- Low driving-in energy, small tightening distance and thus extremely handy for installation work
- High steel ductility enables subsequent alignment using a hammer
- Installation friendly, since only a few revolutions are necessary to apply the torque
- Push through and pre-positioned installation

“This is a wonderfully designed bolt which can be used in both cracked and non-cracked concrete. R&M are proud to support Philippa Jenkins from our Dubai division (R&M Wholesale Electric LLC) who is taking part in the gruelling Abu Dhabi Triathlon 2011 on the 12th of March in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The annual Abu Dhabi Triathlon attracts both top athletes and amateur competitors from all over the world with all participants having to compete in the three stages of swimming, cycling and running that make up a triathlon.
The Abu Dhabi Triathlon offers the competitors three courses to choose from. These range from a “Sprint” involving a 750m swim, a 50km cycle ride followed by a 5km run (not my idea of a traditional sprint!) up to a “Long” course where the anti is upped to a 3km swim, followed by a 200km cycle ride, finishing in a 20km run.
The course itself starts off at the Emirates Palace, winds its way around Abu Dhabi taking in the highlights of this beautiful city, and finishes at the world renowned “Corniche”.
For more information and to help Philippa in achieving her ambitious target of raising £5000 for Macmillan Cancer please click here
Everyone at R&M wishes Philippa good luck for the 12th of March!
