To celebrate the Olympics coming to London, friends of R&M Bruce Elkins and Peter Harding, have created their very own exciting sporting event – 1 Decathlon, which will take place across the year to raise much needed funds for 3 special local charities – The Rainbow Centre, The Rose Road Association and Wessex Cancer Trust. The aim is to raise £100,000 to be shared by the three charities, by holding 10 Olympic events over a 1 year period, sponsored by local businesses with hundreds of other people participating in the actual events – along with Bruce and Peter who will be taking part in all of the events!
R&M are excited to be involved in the Decathlon by sponsoring the Walking section of the 10 stage event. Our aim is to raise a minimum of £20,120 towards the final goal of £100,000 with R&M employees and their friends and families taking part in a 5, 10 or 20 kilometer walk, being held at Manor Farm Country Park on the 25th of March 2012.
“We are very pleased to be associated with the 1 2 3 Decathlon, and our employee have been more than enthusiastic in supporting the event. With 40 of our local employees having already signed up to participate in the walk and with many other “not so sporty” members having agreed to “marshal” the event we are confident that we will raise the £20,120 target we have set ourselves! It is for a great cause and will be a great family day out and with all participants being invited to a free BBQ after the event we anticipate a large turnout on the day!” William Crook – Financial Director

R&M Electrical Group announces the completion of a project to upgrade our WAN infrastructure through the expertise of the London based SAS Group. The new infrastructure will be supported by a managed services agreement between the two companies which includes 24/7 network monitoring and proactive helpdesk services.
R&M Electrical provides a range of products and services to customers around the world, and as a business relies heavily on communications in order to process customer transactions, working with a managed service provider that responds quickly to any issues with network performance or availability is crucial to R&M’s continued success.
“Most of our remote sites have business critical applications connecting to head office,” said Mark Stone, group IT manager for R&M Electrical. “We were having days of sites not being able to process any transactions because the circuits were down and we couldn’t get a response from our service provider.” More…

Sales-i, the sales & customer intelligence service for office-based and front-line sales people, has today announced its increasing success at R&M Electrical, the largest independent electrical distributors in the UK. R&M Electrical first signed up to the on-demand sales and customer intelligence service in summer 2010 and today over 60 of its internal and field-based sales force are actively using and benefitting from the system.
With more than 250 staff and a turnover of £50 to £60 Million, R&M Electrical provides a range of products and services to a worldwide customer base. The company is a member of ANEW (largest independent buying group in the UK). It has overseas branches in the Caspian Region and the middle east, multiple branches in the South of England and South Wales and a number of specialist divisions in the UK namely its Exports Division, Projects Division and Assembly Division based at the Southampton Head office, R&M Fixings & Support based in Southampton and R&M Cables Division based in Bristol. Managing sales and contact across this diverse and very large base of customers is a huge challenge and one that R&M is tackling using sales-i.
Alistair Skyrme, manager of R&M Electricals Exports division has been instrumental in overseeing sales-i’s introduction into the business. “Having close visibility and contact with our clients is key to our success – knowing who they are and what their role is whilst keeping a high touch rate, and staying high on their radar. All of this is time consuming and difficult without a system designed to do that very job.” Alistair continues, “sales-i was designed from the ground up for sales people and sales management. It helps cut to the chase when making sales calls and streamlines and accelerates the sales process. Moreover it gives us great visibility of our customer contact activity and call cycles. The combination of sales and customer intelligence makes it a great choice for R&M.”
